Our food was included in the tour package. It wasn't bad, but it was repetitive. For breakfast, we had a buffet with
Western and Oriental food at the hotel, which was very good. For lunch, we were herded to some government approved
restaurant, usually located at the back of a large souvenir store with a gauntlet of pushy sales girls waiting for
you to return well fed, and hopefully, a little drunk on the beer that was served. Dinners were about the same as lunch,
a nicer restaurant, usually, and without the shopping obstacle course. We'd be seated around tables with 8 to 10 people,
a lazy susan in the center, and the wait staff would bring out dishes of rice, meats, fish, vegetables, soup, (and a few
items that were difficult to identify), and watermelon for dessert. We had a few specialty dinners, but most of our meals
consisted of the same dishes, time and again.
Mmmm... Mongolian BBQ
We could always spot our next restaurant by the multitude of buses parked out front.
There were other options, if we deserved a break today.
Street Markets were another option for the more adventurous. Nice and fresh!! (and alive!!)
